American Humane Association's Adopt-a-Cat

adopt_cat_Laguna_HillsSpring is kitten season. Each year, millions of fuzzy kittens venture into the world on tiny paws. Many end up as beloved family pets or find work as farm cats. By early summer, sadly, thousands end up in shelters alongside other unwanted but loveable pets. Some find trouble and require the care of emergency veterinary in Laguna Hills.

In recognition and support of these adolescent kitties trying to find homes, the American Humane Association names Adopt-A-Cat Month. During this first month of summer, shelters across the United States dedicate themselves to helping people adopt cats of all ages.

In celebration of Adopt-A-Cat Month, the American Humane Association website offers a “Top Ten” checklist for adopting a cat. The list includes helpful information, such as stocking up on supplies before bringing a new cat home and taking a newly adopted cat to a veterinarian within a few days of adoption. Schedule an appointment with Laguna Hills Animal Hospital for an initial checkup and wellness check before he requires emergency veterinary in Laguna Hills.

The website also has downloadable Adopt-A-Cat posters, a cat-happy “twibbon” that Facebook users can add to their profile picture, and downloaded wallpaper for computer desktops.

The American Humane Association invites the public to share pictures of their feline friends on their affiliate website, Be Humane. The association publishes all photo submission on their Facebook page during the month of June. They also provide sharable photos that Facebook users can use to spread the word about Adopt-A-Cat Month.

Each year, the American Humane Association chooses a National Spokesperson for Adopt-A-Cat Month. In 2014, the association chose the two-time Oscar-nominated songwriter Carol Connors, who co-wrote "Gonna Fly Now," the famous theme song from "Rocky” as spokesperson. Connors is a cat lover and a champion of animals. She says the most important thing for animal lovers is “to adopt a kitty, save a life, and give it 'Unconditional Love, Unconditionally.'”

Laguna Animal Hospital celebrates the American Humane Association’s Adopt-A-Cat month and invites all their clients to adopt one or even two cats this summer.
