Parasite Prevention

  1. Make sure your pets get a regular examination and stay on a prescribed dosage of flea and tick prevention medication.  Pets are susceptible to flea and tick infestations at any time of the year regardless of the weather, so a year-round prevention regimen is essential.
  2. Do a regular check of your pets for ticks, especially if you have recently been in tall grass or wooded areas around Orange County or elsewhere.
  3. Consider using a flea comb to examine your pet’s coat.
  4. Watch for changes in your pet’s behavior.  If they are itching or scratching a lot, show hair loss in areas, or have tiny specks on their coats, they may have fleas.

Fleas and Ticks Can Carry Serious Diseases

Fleas and ticks are a nuisance.  They can also cause serious illness in your pets, such as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Bartonella, tapeworms, allergic reactions, and more.  In addition, fleas and ticks on your pets can present a health risk to you and your family.  Fleas and ticks can spread the disease to humans as well as pets.

The right dose of flea and tick prevention medication is critical.  If you are unsure of the correct dosage, or your pet has a change in weight, check with us.

These pests can also live in your carpeting or furniture.  Treating your home can be costly and force you to stay elsewhere for a while.  The best bet is to treat your pets and avoid the problem altogether.
